You must be qualified and be a member in good standing to enter the $10,000 Added Open 3D or the $500 Added Youth 3D. Qualification is based on the rider, not the horse. As a result, you can ride a different horse in the Open 3D or the Youth 3D than you rode when you qualified. In addition, you can enter more than one horse in a class (but a horse can only run in a class once).
You can enter all other classes even if you are not qualified per NPBA rules, but you must be a member in good standing to enter any class.
The classes are co-approved with AQHA this year which means that if you are riding a registered quarter horse your time in the NPBA class will rollover to the corresponding AQHA class at NO CHARGE (other than the $3 AQHA drug fee per day). You will, however, need to fill out an AQHA entry form, however and bring a copy of your horse’s AQHA papers and your AQHA card with you to the show. Please read the AQHA entry form and the rules carefully to make sure you understand which NPBA class will count for AQHA class points.
All entries postmarked before May 1, 2008 will be entered into a drawing to receive a free stall at the National Championship Show. There is a late entry fee this year (see the entry form) so please get your entries in as soon as possible. You can substitute horses before the first go and you can vet out with a veterinarian’s letter. DO NOT send in entries after May 5, 2008 - after May 5, 2008 you will need to enter at the show.
The entry form includes the rules (including payout formula and calculation of the averages) for the show, so please read the rules carefully. Please note that the dress code requires all exhibitors to wear a cowboy hat or helmet ($5 penalty in the NPBA class if you lose your hat in the arena). In addition, because NPBA rules generally incorporate AQHA rules, the new AQHA rule prohibiting altering of the pattern by INTENTIONALLY moving a pole applies. Merely touching a pole will NOT result in a disqualification.
